Endoscopic treatment is a way to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This condition is caused by rising of consumed foods from the stomach back into the esophagus. Doctors use one of the various techniques to change the function of the band of muscles at the base of the esophagus to make easy flow of food into the stomach.

For whom mediation surgery is not desired or possible.

What does endoscopic treatment for GERD involve?

This is done on an outpatient basis. Because they will be serene, they need to have someone drive to their home once it is done.

Once the doctor locates the band of muscles at the esophagus, he or she will use one of the several techniques to repair the muscles:

Sewing or stitching, done with small tools.

Thermal radio frequency, which uses heat produced by radio waves to automatise the muscles.

The injection of biologically inactive materials into the muscles.

The procedure is usually completed within 1 hour.
