What is Spine Surgery (Neurology)?

Spine Surgery (Neurology) Neuro-spinal specialists will carry out many sorts of surgeries in order to reduce uncomfortable symptoms, repair spinal structures, and correct misalignment. Spine surgery may be able to correct the unhealthy abnormalities in the spinal cord, ligaments, nerves, vertebrae, and the discs between them. It can be performed in the thoracic, cervical, lumbar and sacral parts of the spine and the tissues surrounding it. During standard spine surgery, surgeons will use the thin blades and manual instruments to open up the skin and modify the bone and tissue under it. In the recent times, few of the neurosurgeons have implemented the techniques of endoscopy, camera-controlled tools, and use of tiny cameras tools to perform minimally invasive procedures. Some of the surgeons can also use laser tools to adjust the spine, even though these are controversial tools in the field and are still in the stage of development. Some of the most commonly performed spine surgeries for spinal cord injury include: Discectomy: the discs between vertebrae can become herniated, which mean that the part of their center protrudes with its tough exterior, or is damaged otherwise. This condition can occur anywhere along the spine which can cause weakness and pain. Herniated discs can also cause other spinal disorders. While discectomy, a neurosurgeon will excise a part or entirely the damaged disc in order to alleviate such symptoms. It can also be a standalone procedure, or it can be performed in conjunction with the spinal fusion, laminectomy, or other surgeries.
