Neonatal surgery

This is a sub-specialty of pediatric surgery. Usually, a general surgeon can perform surgery on children and adults, however, the pediatric surgeons have the advanced education as well as skills that are necessary to perform surgery on very young children including infants.

The Neonatal surgery is a surgical sub-specialty of pediatric surgery which consists of the surgical care of newborn babies, particularly ill or premature newborn infants. The practicing surgeons who are exclusively concentrating on neonates, infants in the first 28 days post birth, are called as neonatal surgeons, and they heavily coordinate with the hospital's NICU. Often the Neonatal surgeons perform corrective surgeries, that includes abdominal, chest, and urological defects.

They are also heavily involved in the post-operative care of patients.

In the case that if an infant needs surgery, the specialists have expert training in the treatment of neonatal conditions, traumatic or congenital. They also work closely with the parents in order to best evaluate the infant’s condition and they decide on a treatment plan which will be as follows.
